Aurora employees took part in a workshop on painting tote bags in the Petrykivka style

On the eve of Independence Day, Aurora Multimarket, in collaboration with the Ukrainian Crafts project, held an engaging Petrykivka-style tote bag painting workshop for its employees.

We’d like to begin by saying a few words about the project itself — and why we chose to collaborate with it.

The mission of the "Ukrainian Crafts" project is to preserve, revive, and popularize Ukrainian traditions. Their goal is to pass on our values and heritage to future generations — keeping families connected and honoring the memory of our ancestors.

At Aurora Multimarket, we actively support and cherish Ukrainian cultural heritage. We believe it’s vital to preserve and promote our national culture and traditions in everyday life and local communities.
That’s why, ahead of such a meaningful and special holiday for every Ukrainian — Independence Day, a symbol of our freedom and resilience — we decided to hold the aforementioned Petrykivka-style painting workshop.

Ukrainians have always had the talent, drive, and freedom to create a culture that is extraordinary, authentic, and unique.
This culture reveals itself in many forms — from the melodic sounds of our language, to a brushstroke on paper, to entire works of art and distinct styles that exist nowhere else in the world.

One of these treasures is Petrykivka painting — a traditional Ukrainian decorative style that originated in the village of Petrykivka in the Dnipropetrovsk region. It is characterized by floral and plant motifs, often stylized and fantastical, using natural materials like clay, wood, and paper.
The most common themes include flowers, viburnum (kalyna), birds, and animals.
Artists often use special brushes made from cat hair ("kotiachky") or even their fingers — creating striking visual effects and volume.
Every element has symbolic meaning, giving the artwork emotional depth and cultural significance.

On August 23, 2024, our employees who wished to take part in this special experience gathered for the workshop.
First, they learned about the history of Petrykivka painting and its unique techniques. Then, they enthusiastically began decorating their tote bags — creating vibrant, one-of-a-kind patterns in the spirit of this beautiful tradition.

It was a truly special day — one filled with creativity, connection, and cultural pride. Our colleagues came together in a relaxed, informal setting, discovered an authentic Ukrainian art form, and created stunning tote bags that will undoubtedly stand out in any crowd.
