Career path of Vitalii Matiienko, Head of the Logistics Hub in Lviv

Today, we’d like to introduce you to the career story of Vitalii Matiienko.

How his decision to return to Ukraine and take a part-time job at Aurora became the beginning of a successful career.

How did your journey with Aurora begin?

I lived abroad for three years, and in December 2021, I decided to return to Ukraine. Then the war started. I found a job opening for a picker at Aurora online, applied, and started working there almost from the opening of the distribution center.

After a month as a picker, I received an offer to move to a newly created “Picking” department. I really liked it, and I showed a lot of initiative — after just a month of training, I was offered the position of department head.

To get up to speed with all the processes as quickly as possible and truly understand them, I would sometimes even stay overnight at work.

What motivated you to move forward in your career?

First and foremost, it was my desire for self-development. I’ve always looked at any position from the perspective of growth opportunities — whether there’s room to develop. Roles where everything is stable and there are no new challenges feel boring to me.

I’m completely okay with taking a position with a lower salary if I understand that, in the long run, it will change — and that it offers new growth points, new knowledge, and new opportunities.

What challenges did you face along your career path?

I wouldn’t say I faced any major difficulties. The only challenges for me were during adaptation periods in new roles.

The first month or month and a half is always about absorbing a huge amount of new information and getting used to new processes.

Did you consider roles at the Support Office?

Honestly? No 🙂

I’ve been lucky with both my roles and the company — I have plenty of opportunities to grow here, within warehouse logistics.

What advice can you give to those who want to grow at Aurora?

First, don’t be afraid to try something new. Second, take responsibility — there’s nothing страшного about it, no one’s going to “punish” you for that 🙂 And also, learn to think long-term: where and who do you want to be in 10 years?

Finish the sentence: Aurora for me is…

It’s a lifestyle! Aurora has long gone beyond being just an employer. Take sports, for example, training, English courses — the company develops itself in many directions and supports its employees in doing the same. There are also ongoing initiatives to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Aurora doesn’t limit employees to just work — here, you grow, and the company supports you!
